From Darkness to Light
Jesus is the light of the world and He tells us whoever follows Him shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life. When Jesus came into the world, it was to free us from the bondage of sin and darkness. You may not even have recognized that you were in darkness or bondage because the activities you took part in and the behavior you engaged in was labeled as 'normal' by those around you. So try and imagine, Jesus coming from heaven, taking human form and coming to save people who did not even realize they needed saving. Yet His love for us, His obedience to His Father's will led to Him being led to the cross to die for your sins and mine so we could experience His love. You see when anyone is outside of Jesus Christ, they have their identity in the world, in fact, they may not even understand their identity and may just sum it up as a collection of the things they do to get to the goals that people told them were really important to get. However, in Christ, He is our center and other things flow from our center, meanwhile in the world, we are the center flowing to fulfill our needs, wants and desires. So when in Christ, all the past things have to shift. I know many people try to hold onto their past and give Christ a little corner and then want their lives to remain the same but that is the same as putting the candle under the table and expecting to see. My own experience was I had to lose everything I held on dearly as my anchors, my wealth, my status or position in the society, my things; both assets and liabilities, absolutely everything including the relationships I had held onto so tightly for most of my life until God had to become the center of my life and then and only then would His love flow through me to others, His wisdom and the purpose He had created me for. I looked at my former life and I could not even recognize myself because I, once, operated on confusion, on what others had told me was important and for very selfish gain. I let things, networks and positions define me. I let actions define me. When I surrendered to God I could finally adapt the identity He had for me and become a new creation. Now everyone else's journey does not need to be similar to mine and you can surrender your life even now and spend time with God daily learning what he has for you each day. There are things I would have never done, places I would have never gone and people I would have never related to unless I had come to that moment of needing God to rescue me because no one around me ever could. AS A LOVING FATHER HE PICKED ME UP, helped build me back up again and restored me. Now the restoration I refer to is not the old life I once had, it was being restored to the identity God created me to have, the gifts I was meant to carry and to reach the people I was meant to reach.
The light of the world who gives light to all men has come for you and me today. To rescue us from darkness and to give us His light and so when we are living, walking, working or doing anything we are reflecting His light onto others. This light makes others curious and question and eventually draws them to Jesus. In the Bible, Jesus goes through Samaria. Whilst there he sits by the well. It was around midday when it was hottest and no one would be out fetching water. A woman comes and He asks her for water and the conversation goes on as Jesus tells her He could give her the Living Water and she would never thirst again and she wonders how, since He doesn't have a jar to fetch water with. Jesus tells her anyone who drinks the water in the well will thirst again but the water He offers will be a spring water springing up into everlasting life.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:10-14
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14
Jesus gives us the living water that allows us to never thirst again. In this world, at different stages we always feel that something is missing. We are not yet sure what we are missing but we are sure we need it. Some of us spend our whole lives trying to fill that gap with things, people, possessions, addictions and still come short and wonder why we still feel empty. The answer is we were made by God and for God and in our endless pursuit for belonging, love and connection we might miss the very Savior who we were made for. Today let Jesus free you from darkness into His light and let Him fill the longing and ache in the only way He can. Let Jesus into your heart.
If this words have spoken to you consider saying this prayer:
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I admit I have not been living right. I have strayed from the original plan you had for my life. I confess I never took the time to know you but this day, I ask that you come into my heart and transform me to your will. Forgive me of all my sins and help me start anew. I love you and honor you, in Jesus name I pray. Amen!
If you prayed that prayer, reach out to me and I will send you a copy of a 30 day devotional that will help you get grounded in the word of God and begin your transformation journey.
